The 18-year-old has enjoyed a storming season in the Premier League with Southampton and has been rewarded for his performances with a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Southampton have no desire to sell Shaw given how much potential he has but a decision on his future is expected to be made before the World Cup. However, United face competition from Chelsea for his signature.
Chelsea are second favourites at 5/2 and Shaw is openly a Chelsea fan but the good news for Manchester United is that they intend to give Ashley Cole a new contract.
If Shaw was to leave Southampton, he’d want first team football and being understudy to Cole isn’t something that would appeal to him. At United, he’d walk in as our first choice left-back if Patrice Evra leaves in the summer, and be guaranteed Premier League football straight away.
Shaw is expected to be part of England’s squad for the World Cup this summer and if the start of his career is anything to go by, there’s every chance he could become one of the world’s best left-backs in the future.
