Juan Mata‘s exclusion from the starting XI against Norwich City was the main talking point before kick-off today but it was nothing more than a tactical decision from Ryan Giggs.
It’s no surprise that Giggs has gone for a traditional 4-4-2 against Norwich City today and with Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck starting up front, there was no room for Mata in the XI.
“With Mata I’ve gone with two centre forwards and I want us to get off to a fast start,” he told Sky Sports before kick-off.
Formations are a strange thing for any manager. It’s pretty much always a case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t but it was a bold decision to leave Mata on the bench, hopefully it pays off.
Giggs also explained that Kagawa was given the nod partly because of his performance against Norwich last season where he scored a hat-trick.
