Juan Mata was beaming from ear to ear when he was interviewed after the Norwich victory yesterday and had nothing but kind words to say about Ryan Giggs.
Eyebrows were raised when Mata was left on the bench and his magnificent performance from the bench for 30 minutes showed just what he could do.
However, instead of being angry, Mata used it as fuel for his impressive cameo and was fuel of praise for Giggs in his new role as manager.
“For me, it’s a pleasure to play under this manager,” he said.
“When I was a kid I remember him playing. He is a proper Man United boy.
“It’s a pleasure to be with him in the training ground and at the game, but it’s not down to us.”
The compliments were in full flow after the game and Giggs was equally as effusive about Mata’s professionalism and performance against Norwich.
“That was a tough one, as it was leaving so many players out,” he said.
“He was disappointed, and I’d expect that. It would be strange if he wasn’t, but he just showed the class that he’s got both as a player and as a professional. He put on a half-hour masterclass, he was brilliant and I was really happy for him because it’s not easy because he’s got a big price tag.
“To not start the game was disappointing for him and I’m really pleased that he came on and made such an impact.”
Is there anybody who could possibly not like Mata? If there is, they don’t have a heart.
