The most exciting news about Juan Mata all season

by Sam Peoples

Yesterday was a busy day for Juan Mata.

The now 26-year-old celebrated his birthday, was nominated for Manchester United’s player of the month and as it was a Monday, he released his weekly blog looking back at the events of the last week.

This time around, it was as upbeat as can be after the 4-0 win over Norwich in which Mata’s cameo stole a lot of the headlines.

In his blog, Mata said: “I want to thank you for all your congratulations and messages of support following the game against Norwich. That win was extremely important for sure, since it was a happy ending to a complicated week with big changes, as you know.

“It was Ryan Giggs’ first game as a manager after plenty of years of success on the pitch, and the truth is everything went well. Our fans deserve that, indeed. They deserve scores like this one because, in this tough season, they have gone home with a downcast face too many times. So that’s what we are going to try in the remaining games.”

But the real excitement is a schoolboy fact about Mata – he’s got some goalposts in his back garden.

The little boy inside Mata still burns brightly and he has even got a badminton net for some football tennis. He’s probably bought a Panini stickerbook for the World Cup too. Swapsies?

With each passing week, Mata becomes one of the most likeable and endearing Manchester United players ever, least not for David de Gea. Their bromance grows stronger by the day.
