Edwin Van der Sar has hailed Louis van Gaal as the best manager he has ever played for and is confident that a deal for the Dutchman will happen.
Van der Sar won the Champions League with Van Gaal’s Ajax in 1995 and clearly has fond memories of playing for him, fond enough to place him above Sir Alex Ferguson in his memories.
Reports from De Telegraaf Holland also claim that a deal is very close to being completed and if that is the case, it is a matter of when, not if, Van Gaal is announced as Manchester United manager.
“I will say more about Louis and United once his appointment his official,” Van der Sar boldly said
“But I have made it clear here before that Louis van Gaal is the best manager I have ever played for.”

Van der Sar didn’t mince his words. As far as he is concerned, it is a case of talking more about Van Gaal ‘once his appointment is official’, rather than if. Is his confidence misplaced? We’ll know soon enough.
Given what has happened in such a short space of time, it’s hard to think that this time last week (at time of publishing) David Moyes was still manager of Manchester United.
