Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Cruzeiro playmaker Everton Ribeiro in January and fresh reports today in the Brazilian press suggestion a €16 million bid could be on its way from Manchester United.
Jaeci Carvalho, a well established, reliable sports journalist when it comes to news regarding Minas Gerais’ clubs, has written in his column for Super Esportes that Cruzeiro turned down a bid around €13m for Ribeiro from an English club a while ago but believes a €16m is on its way which Cruzeiro are willing to accept and that Manchester United is likely the club in question.
Jaeci believes that a bid may be agreed between the clubs for him to move after World Cup, which Ribeiro has less than a remote chance of being involved with.
These reports may have emerged due to Ribeiro’s recent fine performance against Cerro Porteño, where he gave an assist to help Cruzeiro qualify for the quarter-finals of Copa Libertadores.
The 25-year-old repeatedly wooed Manchester United to make a move for him by insisting it was his dream club and that he could play in any midfield position back in January to no avail, but these fresh reports suggest the interest from Manchester United is genuine.
