Two Dutchmen who could follow Van Gaal to Manchester United this week

by Sam Peoples

Just like David Moyes brought Steve Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Woods with him from Everton last year, Louis van Gaal would bring a set of coaching staff with him.

With that in mind, who is most likely to follow him from the Holland national team if he is to be named Manchester United manager?

Patrick Kluivert is currently Van Gaal’s assistant with Holland but in terms of real coaching experience, he is a bit of a greenhorn.

He took up his first role in 2008/9 with Dutch side AZ coaching their strikers before moving to NEC in 2010 to take up a similar role.

In 2011, he coached the FC Twente youth team and then in 2012, he joined Van Gaal’s staff and has been there ever since.

Not the most accomplished CV by any standards but clearly a man that Van Gaal would trust having worked with him for two years.

One person who is a certain to follow Van Gaal if he gets the job is goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek.

Frans has worked with Van Gaal for almost his whole career. He was with him at Ajax, Barcelona, Van Gaal’s first stint as Netherlands coach back in 2002, Bayern Munich and is currently the goalkeeping coach for Holland.

Chris Woods has done a great job with David de Gea, much like Eric Steele had before he left, but if Van Gaal is appointed, Hoek will almost certainly follow him.
