Thomas Muller has become the latest Bayern Munich player to be linked with Manchester United amid claims he is unhappy in Bavaria.
The 24-year-old is reportedly frustrated at his lack of starts under Pep Guardiola and is willing to join United in order to get the chance to work under Louis van Gaal again, the manager who brought Muller through the academy into Bayern’s first team.
This season, Muller is Bayern’s most prolific player having scored 13 goals with ten assists and it is only Frank Ribery who is close to him with ten goals and assists. Given the talent in the Bayern squad, it certainly highlights Muller’s talent.
Bayern have moved quickly to quash the rumours and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has invited Muller to discuss his future with him.
“If a player does not feel well at Bayern Munich, he should come to my office,” he said.
“We will have to talk about things like that.”
However, Muller refused to pass comment on the rumours. “No comment, no comment. I do not comment on rumours,” he responded when asked by Bild.
Like the Edinson Cavani rumours, Muller looks like a player who doesn’t really fit United’s needs right now but unlike the Uruguayan, Muller has genuine versatility on his side.
At various points his season, Muller has played in every midfield role and as a centre forward. That sort of versatility would make him an extremely useful player to have.
The fact he played under Van Gaal before gives the rumour some added strength and Bayern are clearly having a difficult time keeping all of their squad happy at the moment, given the situation with Kroos, Gotze’s admission he isn’t happy and these rumours about Muller.
