Marco Reus long been linked with a move to Manchester United but speculation gathered pace this week after the attacker refused to comment on whether he’d sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.
Speculation was fuelled further when Bild claimed United had taken the first step towards signing Reus.
Speaking at a ceremony where he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year, Reus indicated his current contract delays are because he wants to make the most out of it.
“Every player has only one career, so you want to make the most of it,” he said.
Reus went on to suggest while he is focused on making sure he gets the most out of his contract that he woud rather win one trophy with Dortmund than six elsewhere – a bold statement and one which Mats Hummels also said earlier this window.
What’s clear here is Reus is weighing up his options. He could pursue a move away but there is every risk it may not work out like Shinji Kagawa or Nuri Sahin.
One thing is for sure – Manchester United have every reason to be interested in Reus because of his contract delays.
