Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic this summer, according to reports coming out of Spain.
They suggest the Croatian midfielder will move to the Santiago Bernabeu before the World Cup begins in a four year deal that would see him stay in the Spanish capital until 2018.
Madrid’s financial power in the market has never ruled them out of signing a player but in a squad incluing Modric, Alonso, Khedira and Illaramendi, what would they need with another midfielder who would likely command a £35 million+ offer after the season he has had?
It would be no surprise if Madrid did want Rakitic as, statistically, he has been the best performing midfielder in La Liga this season with only Messi, Ronaldo and Bale outperforming him – and Madrid know all too well how good he can be.
Rakitic welcomed United’s interest when it was there but if these reports are to be believed, that doesn’t matter anyway.
