Rio Ferdinand will not be offered a new contract by Manchester United and has been told he is free to leave the club this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The 35-year-old intimated on more than one occasion that he wanted to continue at United but the decision has been taken to not renew his contract which won’t come as a surprise to many fans who felt now was the right time for him to end his United career.
The Daily Mail are also reporting that Ed Woodward told Ferdinand in the dressing room on Sunday in front of others. Surely not. Surely even Woodward has more tact than that?
Ferdinand’s head seemed more interested in life after football than playing football this season and after 12 years of service, he’ll hang up his boots and no matter what you think of him, nobody can deny the fact he has been one of the best centre backs the club has had.
