AS Roma have confirmed Miralem Pjanic has signed a new contract to keep him at the club until 2at least 2018, a move which ends Manchester United’s interest in the midfielder.
Pjanic was linked with a move to United back in January following his impressive season to date and some reports from Bosnia at the time also suggested United had submitted an undisclosed bid for Pjanic.
However, his new contract will keep him in Rome and leave United to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements this summer.
Pjanic made more appearances than any midfielder for Roma this campaign and was instrumental in their early season dominance that saw them set a Serie A record for the best start to a season with ten consecutive wins, so there was plenty of buzz around a potential move to Old Trafford for him.
Although Pjanic may have been a decent buy, there are plenty of other midfielders such as Roma team-mate Kevin Strootman and Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos who we are far more interested in signing, so his new deal with Roma shouldn’t be too much of a setback for United.
