Not a performance De Gea will be writing home about any time soon but the Spaniard was decent enough between the sticks. What a brilliant season he has had.
Smalling was our best player in the first-half in a position he has struggled to adapt to this season. In the second half, he still impressed.
Rio Ferdinand 6
Was that Ferdinand’s last game in a United shirt? Potentially. Like most of United’s players for a lot of the match, he was a passenger.
Nemanja Vidic 8
It was fitting that Vidic’s last ever game in a United shirt ended up being covered in elbows, his blood and a yellow card. He’s going to be sorely missed. There is nobody who can replace his physical presence in this current United side.
Patrice Evra 6
Very similar performance to Ferdinand. Could also have been his last. Tried to get forward when he could but didn’t do too much.
Darren Fletcher 7
Fletcher’s return is one of the bright lights of this season. Against Southampton, he kept busy in the middle of the park which was all he could do as they saw so much of the ball for a lot of the game.
Shinji Kagawa 6
That’s two games in a row where Kagawa has been used a deeper lying central midfielder and he has struggled to have an impact in either game.
Quiet in the first half but his free-kick equaliser deserves the eight rating all by itself. The Spaniard wasn’t able to influence the game too much in the first half but he blossomed in the second until he was substituted.
Danny Welbeck 6
Going forward, United struggled to create as did Welbeck. Had a gilt edged chance to score for United but wasn’t able to take it.
Januzaj tried and tried to get past the impressive Shaw but had very limited luck. May have been better suited swapping wings in order to get some more space.
No hat-trick for Van Persie at the St. Mary’s this time. The Dutchman was relatively quiet up front for United.
Javier Hernandez 6
Chicharito has been much more lively in last few performances but he is still some way away from his best form.
Gave United a bit more of a controlling presence in the middle of the park when he came on.
