Nick Powell has been handed a 14 month driving ban and ordered to pay a £5,000 fine in Crewe Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to drink driving.
The 20 year old, who spent the majority of this season on loan at Wigan Athletic, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday 20 April in his hometown of Crewe as he was driving his Vauxhall Corsa.
His breath test was 21mg over the legal limit with him registering 54mg per 100ml of breath instead of 35mg or less.
Wigan Athletic declined to comment on this situation.
Powell has been left out of both play-off semi-finals against QPR and it is yet unclear as to whether he will remain with the Latics should they manage to progress to the final against Derby County on May 24.
According to Sky Sports News, he missed out due to a combination of injuries including a hamstring problem. However, there have been reports on social media that he was suspended by Uwe Rosler following comments made on Instagram.
His last appearance for the Latics came in their 2-0 home defeat to Blackpool on April 26.
Powell had a great start to season and while injuries have affected his performance in the second half of the season, it’s disappointing that his season is ending with this nonsense after he picked up Wigan’s Golden Boot award.
