Louis van Gaal has refused to discuss anything to do with becoming Manchester United manager at his Holland press conference today.
Reports suggested a deal was to be announced last week but nothing happened and now reports are saying this week is when Van Gaal will be unveiled as United manager following the end of the season.
However, Van Gaal is remaining fully focused on preparing his Holland squad for the World Cup, giving no indication as to what is happening regarding the United job.
“I am speaking about the Dutch national team today. I’m not going to speak about Manchester United,” he said.
“You should ask Manchester United about my contract.”
However, Van Gaal may have accidentally let it slip that he already is United’s manager.
With the World Cup less than four weeks away, both United and Van Gaal have contrasting prerogatives to meet but in the interest of the club, we’ll want to announce any deal as soon as possible.
Andy Mitten believes a deal is imminent and Ryan Giggs said he expected something to be finalised this week, so while Van Gaal may not wish to comment on his club future in a press conference for the national team, things are likely to be in motion behind the scenes.
