David de Gea in line to make his Spain debut this month

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea could make his debut for Spain this month in their friendly against Bolivia, according to AS in Spain.

Following the injury to Victor Valdes, De Gea was given a spot in Vicente Del Bosque’s 30 man squad and alongside Dani Carvajal and Ander Iturraspe, they are the only players who haven’t ever played for the senior Spain side before.

As such, Del Bosque is expected to give the trio their debut in the two friendlies against Bolivia and El Salvador before the World Cup starts in June to test them out.

That would be fantastic for De Gea because although he is already a great goalkeeper, the Spain squad is saturated with them and his debut for Spain looked a few years down the line thanks to Casillas, Reina and Valdes keeping him out of the side.

However, he has been granted a golden opportunity through Valdes’ injury and if he can take hold of it with both hands, pun aside, he could force his way into the Spain squad permanently earlier than expected.
