Bayern Munich trio Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos have all had their names thrown into the proverbial hat as have Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Southampton’s Luke Shaw.
It isn’t the first time that any of them has been mentioned and it is unlikely to be the last as well.
The most fantastical name of the five surely has to be Robben but given Van Gaal’s previous links to Bayern and his current position with Holland, it is likely to continue for some time yet.
As for Muller and Kroos, both are currently in negotiations with regards to a new contract but nothing is yet set in stone, so a move away is conceivable.
Sources close to United are suggesting there is progress in regards to Hummels while Shaw is the only of the five who United have already submitted a bid for.
In United’s current squad, there’d be a place for all five players but we’re more likely to see rain in the desert than United securing all five signings. That being said, there is reason to believe a couple of these players would follow Van Gaal in through the front door.
