Franks Hoek has informed the Dutch FA that he will be leaving his position as goalkeeping coach after the World Cup, fuelling speculation he will join Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.
The 57-year-old has followed Van Gaal throughout his career at the likes of Ajax, Holland, Barcelona and Bayern Munich so it is widely expected he would be part of Van Gaal’s backroom staff if/when he is announced as United.
Rumours this week surfaced that Edwin van der Sar could become United’s goalkeeping coach under Van Gaal but they are wide of the mark.
Van der Sar coming back to United would be fantastic but he has no experience of being a goalkeeping coach, so it would make little sense for him to return in that capacity for the time being at least.
However, Hoek’s decision to inform the FA certainly indicates he would be coming to Old Trafford with Van Gaal and it now seems nothing more than a formality for his official announcement to be confirmed.
