Reports suggest his £52,000 a week deal would be increased to £85,00 and a two year extension would be added onto his current deal.
De Gea deserves every penny he gets on an improved contract and if the likes of Ashley Young are on £120,000 a week, you could justifiably argue the club should just give De Gea as much as he wants to make sure he stays at the club.
He may have been superb last season but the Spaniard is only going to get better, so United need to make sure that he is committed long term when the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona come sniffing for him. This summer, you could quite easily see Atletico Madrid enquiring about him this summer if Thibaut Courtois decides to return to Chelsea.
The 23-year-old was one of the only players to come out of United’s season with some pride still intact and it’s vitally important United can secure De Gea’s long term future as soon as possible.
