Manchester United confirmed the signing of 17-year-old goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic from FK Vojvodina this weekend and although practically nothing is known about him, his physique is enough to get United fans excited at the prospect of him in the future.
Standing at 6ft 7 already with a full beard, Milinkovic looks more like a man who should be more worried about when his next bill is due rather than a boy who isn’t even a senior member in Serbia just yet, something which puts him in good stead straight away.
United have made a habit in recent years of bringing in some fantastic talent and there is every chance Milinkovic could be a great player in the future but he faces stiff competition at all levels.
David de Gea was our best player last year and could stay for well over a decade if he wanted to. Below him, Anders Lindegaard is still a competent back-up while Ben Amos is chomping at the bit for his opportunities.
Even lower down, we’ve got the likes of Joel Castro Pereira and Pierluigi Gollini working their way through the academy but if his talent fills out as much as his height, there’ll be a big future ahead of Milinkovic.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until at least the 2015/6 season to see him in action as he is being allowed to stay at his current club to help him develop.
