Louis van Gaal‘s first game in charge of Manchester United will come against LA Galaxy on the first stop of our 2014/15 USA tour for pre-season.
Following that game, United have a tricky trio of fixtures against AS Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all in the space of ten days.
Given that United have no taste of European football in the next calendar year, this will be the closest we get to that and Van Gaal will meet Cristiano Ronaldo’s Madrid, who could be the holders of the Champions League by that stage.
By all accounts, this tour should be at least semi-competitive. Out in Asia last summer, the only benefit to the games was gaining back match fitness but that won’t be the case this year.
Everyone will be genuinely eager to impress Van Gaal and he’ll have the perfect platform to judge the players on as our opposition will be good.
Bring on next season.
