Mata, De Gea and Fabregas’ love triangle could blossom at Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Time moved in slow motion when David de Gea swung the door open to greet Juan Mata at Carrington and the only thing missing from their warm embrace was a Disney soundtrack on MUTV.

De Gea was the first player to meet Mata and ever since that first day, the pair have been inseparable.

They are next door neighbours, drive into training together, embrace after goals at St James’ Park, brush each other’s hair in the morning and subconsciously finish one another’s sentences without thinking. More twins than team-mates, they’re two peas in a pod.

It’s helped bring the best out of De Gea and Mata’s had a smile on his face since day one at United but fear not Fabregas, there’s room for one more in this Spanish circle.

Fabregas could probably do with some loving after being booed on several occasions this season by Barcelona fans and although reports suggest Louis van Gaal might not want Fabregas, you can imagine Mata and De Gea hard at work scouting.

After a training session at the Spain camp, Fabregas is sat down enjoying his lunch, flanked by De Gea and Mata, who keep nudging him and pointing towards “Come to United” written in their Alphabetti Spaghetti. The seed has been sown.

De Gea has jokingly admitted he is trying to convince Fabregas to join and why not? He might have failed in wooing Thiago Alcantara and, so far, hasn’t done anything to prove to Koke that Old Trafford is the place to be but maybe it is third time lucky with Fabregas.

United creating their own Spanish armada would be fantastic. They have dominated international football for the last six years and in De Gea, we have their soon to be No. 1 goalkeeper and one of their best playmakers in Mata. Adding Fabregas to that mix would be great. Plus, how could he reject the chance to play with Mata and Dave? He’s only human after all.
