Angel Di Maria has insisted he is happy at Real Madrid but revealed in an interview with Marca that he could be sold if the club had other intentions this summer.
Following their 10th European title win, Di Maria has said he would not force a move away from the club and on his performances this season, Real Madrid should certainly keep him.
The 26-year-old was in sparkling form for Real Madrid last season and his 22 assists across all competitions was the highest at the club last season.
“No, I’m keeping calm. I’m just focussing on the World Cup at the moment,” Di Maria told Marca.
“I said I would focus on Madrid until the evening of the 24th, and from then on I would focus on Argentina. I think I’m arriving here on good form. We’ll soon see what happens with Madrid; if they want me to continue or they want me to leave the club.”
“I’m happy. I had a great year and the fans have acknowledged it; I always had their support. Even if you’re keen to stay or looking forward to carrying on, sometimes you can’t because the club wants another player or wants to make other additions and needs to sell. And someone has to go. But I’m very happy.”
Previous reports suggest he was on United’s radar and if you ignore his theatrics, Di Maria was one of attacking midfielders in the world last season and his man of the match performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final was testament to that.
Real Madrid have continued to splash the cash in recent years, least not with the purchase of Gareth Bale last summer, and with FFP coming into play properly now, Di Maria clearly thinks there is a possibility he could be sold to fund a move elsewhere.
