Mourinho is believed to prefer Koke, who Chelsea are actively pursuing according to Sky Sports, and does not feel Fabregas is worth the £30m price tag to Chelsea.
It would be no surprise if this was the case because the pair haven’t exactly seen eye to eye over the years and, much like Juan Mata, a diminutive Spanish playmaker isn’t Mourinho’s cup of tea.
For United, that’s good news if we wanted to make a move for Fabregas because with Chelsea out of the picture, Fabregas’ options are limited.
One scenario that can emerge could see Bayern Munich sell Bastian Schweinsteiger to United in order to fund the purchase of Fabregas but apart from that, Fabregas would not have many places to go if he left Barcelona this year other than United.
Reports suggest Louis van Gaal is not interested in Fabregas but top class and available midfielders are in short supply this summer, so United need to make sure we don’t start the season effectively empty handed like we did last summer.
