Robin van Persie and Daryl Janmaat suffered minor injuries after a collision with a kitesurfer in Brazil.
The Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) confirmed the duo were hit by a kitesurfer but said there was nothing to worry about beyond that.
It would have been the story of Van Persie’s career if he had worked himself into the best shape in a long time, ready for the World Cup, only for a rogue kitesurfer to ruin it all.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case but still, it’s a freak accident that could have been worse so Van Persie will be counting his lucky stars.
Van Persie told the press this week he was playing for the first time in six years without a constant pain somewhere in his body which indicates he really is raring to go in Brazil.
Louis van Gaal will certainly hope Van Persie can be on top form and looking forward to the new season, a strong World Cup campaign from the Dutchman would be the perfect prelude to life under Van Gaal at United.
