The agent of FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez has revealed interest from Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal in a bid to spark interest in the Colombian striker.
Talks are believed to be at an advanced stage for Martinez, 27, with Roma in a potential move to Serie A for the pacy winger.
However, Martinez’s agent Peppino Tirri has insisted meetings with various European clubs are still in the pipeline.
“I am waiting for Jackson Martinez’s manager, Henrique Pompeo, to arrive in Italy tonight for a series of transfer meetings we’ll have together,” Tirri said.
“It’s true, he will fly in tonight because we have some encounters to evaluate and find the right proposal for Jackson Martinez.
“We’ve got meetings set up with numerous European clubs, as he is of interest to Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Valencia, but also important Italian sides.
“Yes, Roma are a concrete possibility, but they aren’t the only Serie A club interested in Martinez. I repeat, we have many meetings and a lot to do over the next few days.
“We believe Porto will happily do with a sum between £25m and £30m.”
Although Martinez has scored 60 times in 91 appearances for Porto, this is the first time he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and although he is expected to leave this summer, he hasn’t been linked with a move to United before.
Given that Martinez operates in the central position behind the strikwer, United would be foolish to buy him.
The reality is that Martinez’s agent could just be using United’s name to garner interest in his client rather than thinking a move to Old Trafford is a possibility, a trick that some clubs use.
