After a dreadful season for Manchester United, Nani was hoping to have a World Cup to remember but despite putting in an impressive performance from the bench in Portugal’s final warm up game, he was terrible as his side were thrashed 4-0 in Group G’s opener.
Nani started on the right of a front three with Cristiano Ronaldo and Hugo Almeida in support and, in spite of some brief forays into Germany’s half in the opening minutes, Portugal soon found themselves behind thanks to a Thomas Muller penalty.
After Pepe’s red card, there was only going to be one winner and Nani offered very little for them in attack.
Poor in possession and once again greedy when he had no right to be, Nani was ineffective on the right and when he switched to the left in the second half when the game was all but over, he was still no better as he even got in the way of Fabio Coentrao, during one attack.
Fair to say everything went Germany's way: an early penalty, goal from set piece, a red card…and Nani. What a terrible player.

Nani has done absolutely nothing. It won't be easy selling him this summer.

Nani played the full 90 mins in the 4-0 defeat to Germany. He was mightily disappointing, useless and wasteful throughout. No shock.

I'm all for selling Nani. At the end of the day, being realistic and fair, he's absolutely cat piss. #MUFC

Nani position in Portugal’s starting XI will be in doubt as he could be replaced by Silvestre Varela in their now pivotal encounter against the USA because, much like England’s group on Thursday, it’s effectively a knock-out game.
In a World Cup where Nani will potentially want to put himself in the shop window, he did nothing to excite any potential buyers,
