Manchester United striker admits he’s likely to leave this summer

Manchester United’s Bebe has admitted he is honoured to be linked with a move to Benfica and knows that it is likely his future lies outside Old Trafford.

Yesterday, A Bola linked Bebe with a move to Benfica as part of a deal that would see Nicolas Gaitan go the other way and today, Bebe, 23, has opened the door for his potential exit irrespective of any Gaitan deal.

“Benfica are a great club and I’m honoured to be linked with such an interesting club,” he said.

“It could be a big step for me. Im still young.

“I’ve one year left at Man United, and at the moment I can’t see how I’m going to play here next season. Everything is open.”

Last season, Bebe spread his wings and showed some real goalscoring calibre on loan at Pacos de Ferreira, finishing the season as the top scoring Portuguese player in the league with 11 goals.

He didn’t show any of that promise at United but his form certainly earned him some stripes and if Louis van Gaal hadn’t have come in as manager, you could see him being given another chance under David Moyes.

Will Van Gaal afford him that chance? Probably not given how many strikers we have including the likes of James Wilson who are breaking through.

For United and Bebe, a departure now looks like the smartest solution. At 23, he’s young enough to have a long career elsewhere and if we can streamline our squad, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for the club either.
