Ander Herrera is now in England having completed his flight from the Basque country on a private plane and is expected to travel up to Manchester today in order to complete his move.
Prior to leaving, Herrera said goodbye to his Athletic Bilbao teammates and his agent has reportedly told Vozpopuli that a move is unlikely to fall through at this stage.
Cadena Ser, the Spanish radio station who first ran with the Herrera story last night, believe a move could be completed today.
The 24-year-old has already passed his medical and El Correo have been told Manchester United are determined to pay Herrera’s €36m release clause by the end of the month, so with personal terms in the region of £90,000 a week already agreed, it is simply a case of Herrera signing on the dotted line to finalise the deal.
It’s not unusual for players to complete medicals in foreign countries in order to speed up processes and United will have trusted medical staff dotted all around the world for just that reason.
This move has come as a real surprise to both fans and the British press, least not because United seemingly ruled out a second move for Herrera and because his agent denied there were any approaches for him only last week.
“There has not been anything new,” Arturo Canales said.
“There have been rumours all year, but we have not heard anything. The approach is that he is an Athletic player and nothing else.
“Ander is on vacation and he only focuses on the Athletic next season because he is very excited to play the Champions League with his team.”
Like a bolt from the blue, Herrera is on the verge of completing his move to United and the sooner he is confirmed the better.
