Up until David Moyes was sacked, Toni Kroos looked like a genuine option for Manchester United this summer but it now seems as though any potential deal for Kroos is dead in the water.
The midfielder had been looking for a move away from Bayern Munich in search for a bigger pay rise but Old Trafford won’t be his destination and Barcelona have now emerged as the front runners for his signature.
Kroos was Moyes’ main target for the summer and some rumours went around that Ed Woodward had agreed a deal for the midfielder, but he isn’t wanted by Louis Van Gaal.
In recent weeks, the German midfielder has been linked with a move to Chelsea when his contract ends, where he would expect to earn £125,000 a week, far in excess of what he currently earns at Bayern.
Phil, from Bayern website Bavarian FB Works doesn’t believe there has been any developments with regards to a new deal for Kroos, leading to speculation that an exit is the most likely outcome.
“As of this moment, there haven’t been any developments on a new contract past next summer,” he said.
“Some Spanish media sites are claiming Real Madrid will be offering Kroos the moon to sign with them, but the majority of today Spanish “news” sites are very untrustworthy.”
German newspaper Kicker are going with the line that Barcelona have bid €40m for Kroos who they see as a direct replacement for Xavi.
It remains to be seen where Kroos sees his future but it is looking less likely by the day that there is even a chance he’ll end up at United.
