An announcement was originally expected yesterday but due to complications in the deal, Athletic Bilbao initially rejected United’s €36m offer for Herrera.
Any deal for Herrera was always going to be complicated due to the tax laws regarding buyout clauses in Spain (we explain it in detail here) but by the sounds of it, United have been able to resolve the issues quickly.
Ducker reports that Herrera will sign an initial four-year deal with the option for a year extension and with no World Cup matches on Friday, it would be the perfect time for United to make the announcement.
Fans are understandably nervous about the delays to this Herrera deal because of what happened last summer and the unexpected hurdle of Athletic Bilbao rejecting a bid has jangled some nerves.
However, United clearly went into these negotiations prepared and although they wouldn’t have expected this final delay, it looks like a matter of time before the deal is announced.
