Luke Shaw has admitted it is a great feeling to finally be confirmed as a Manchester United player and is excited about what the future holds at ‘the biggest club in the world.’
Shaw, 18, is now United’s future left-back for potentially the next decade and his arrival gives United some much needed fresh energy in defence that has been lacking from Patrice Evra in recent years.
Following Herrera, Shaw’s signing means United have spent over £60m on new additions in the past 24 hours and Shaw was keen to emphasise why he joined in his first interview with MUTV.
He said: “Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is always going to be up there with the best.
“I think the main reason I’ve come here is because United want to win trophies and so do I. I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that.”
Shaw remained humble to his roots and was keen to thank Southampton for what they have done for his career but he is looking forward to the challenge of United.
He added: “I have been at Southampton since I was eight years old and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me.
“I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life and also looking forward to learning from the world-class players and management at the club. I am thrilled and excited to be joining Manchester United.”
The first time United fans will get to see Shaw in action is in the pre-season tour of America and if he is to play in United’s first game against LA Galaxy, then Shaw will make his United debut on 23 July.
