Losing 1-0 to a dogged Mexican side and toiling in the heat, Van Gaal threw on Klaas Jan Huntelaar for captain Robin Van Persie and it was he who got the winner in stoppage time with a calmly converted penalty in the final minutes.
At the same time as Van Persie was brought off, Javier Hernandez was came on but he couldn’t impact the game as much as he would have wanted to.
Hernandez just didn’t have the same presence as compatriot Oribe Peralta and failed to hold up the play as effectively but the focus should be on Holland’s incredible turnaround at the death.
Here’s what a few United fans thought of the turnaround:
Mexico's out ball disappeared as soon as Hernandez arrived.

Two late goals to turn a game on its head? Yeah, van Gaal is gonna fit in just fine at United.

Last-gasp comebacks? Louis van Gaal will fit in very nicely at United.

Late goals turning games on their heads have been the staple diet for United fans over the past 20 years and Holland’s performance against Mexico shows that teams under Van Gaal carry that same mentality as well, something which puts him in great stead for his reign at Old Trafford.
