Wilson had a fantastic season last year which saw him play at Under-18/19/21 level on the way to scoring 25 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions, including two goals on his Premier League debut against Hull City. That record is made even more impressive considering that the Biddulph born forward had a series of niggling injuries and illnesses throughout the season. As a result of his stellar campaign, several clubs have come looking for a chance to take him on loan but United aren’t entertaining any of them.
This is following the meeting between Ryan Giggs and new manager Louis van Gaal where reports suggest that Giggs lauded the youngster’s ability. It would be wonderful if these reports meant that Wilson was in contention for a first team role this season but it may just be that van Gaal wants to hold off on deciding on where Wilson will spend next season until he gets a chance to see him for himself.
However, should United choose to give Wilson loan experience then Wigan will face competition from newly promoted Premier League side Burnley. Sean Dyche is a big fan of Wilson, and was regularly spotted at United’s reserves matches last season. Given how much time he’s spent keeping on eye on Wilson’s progress, it’s unlikely he’ll be deterred by United’s bid rejection or the interest of other clubs.
