Iniesta admits Van Gaal demands respect from every single player

Andreas Iniesta has hailed Louis van Gaal as an important influence in how his career turned out, saying that the opportunities he got when he was younger meant he learned far quicker.

Van Gaal was coach of Barcelona when Iniesta was still young and gave him everything he needed to succeed, something Iniesta still remembers fondly.

“Yes,” Iniesta responded when asked if Van Gaal was an imposing figure.

“He already commands respect when you are a veteran, so imagine when you have just entered the team and you are young.

“But the truth is I have a special memory of him, because he is someone very important to me and if there was something he cared about was supporting the young players from the reserves.”

Iniesta hasn’t been the first Barcelona player to praise the influence Van Gaal had on him and he won’t be the last.

What is so abundantly clear from the offset is just how special a manager Van Gaal is and how many players he has helped develop over his years as manager, which should really excite United’s youth team as well as the senior side.

That relationship and tradition of bringing through the youth is certainly one area United fans are excited to see in action and with only six weeks until the start of the season, it won’t be long before it is upon us.
