Report – Juventus reach agreement in principle for Manchester United’s Patrice Evra

by Sam Peoples

Patrice Evra has reached an agreement in principle to join Juventus this summer, according to the usually reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

With a contract agreed, the decision is now with Manchester United and Louis van Gaal as to whether Evra will be allowed to leave.

Although the 33-year-old signed a one-year extension, it doesn’t rule out a departure and his exit would certainly give more legs to United’s reported move for Thomas Vermaelen who is comfortable at both left-back and centre-back.

That being said, no United fan will want to see Evra leave for the sake of it. Luke Shaw‘s arrival means we have a new first-choice left-back but there would be no better mentor for the 18-year-old than Evra, a player who truly understands what it means to be a United player.

However, if Evra’s departure to Juventus helped United in any way with regards to negotiations for Arturo Vidal, it may be a different story altogether but with Van Gaal still tied up with Holland at the World Cup, there is unlikely to be any confirmation either way just yet.

Update: Mike Keegan, formerly from the Manchester Evening News, has reported that there has currently been no contact with Manchester United over a move for Evra.
