Sporting Lisbon’s director Augusto Ignacio has revealed the club is not concerned by William Carvalho’s potential departure this summer which paves the way for him to join Manchester United.
Carvalho, 22, has a €45m release clause in his contract but reports from Portugal this week suggested United were ready to offer around €30m for the midfielder.
Ignacio is confident that Sporting have alternatives if Carvalho was to leave and indicated that negotiations have begun.
“It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price,” he said.
“We are not concerned with William Carvalho because we have alternatives, who will want to play as well.
“The termination clause ensures a great deal to Sporting. I am very pleased with the negotiations.
“It is not easy to negotiate for players, you need to be very shrewd but Sporting have a president who knows how to negotiate with anyone and what is best for the club.”
Something which could be indicative of Carvalho’s departure as well is that he was left out of Sporting’s promotional pictures for next season’s kit despite being their best player last season.

Whether Carvalho does move to Old Trafford remains to be seen but what is clear is that he is available for the right price.
