Angelo Henriquez has returned from his season on loan at Real Zaragoza and is ready to show Louis van Gaal why he deserves a chance to play for Manchester United’s first team.
The Chilean striker, 20, enjoyed a strong start to his loan spell out in Spain but injuries curtailed his progress and put him out of the running for a wildcard spot in the Chile team for the World Cup.
Just like every young player, Henriquez will be keen to impress Louis van Gaal enough to be given some opportunities and he’s ready for the challenge.
“New season, new challenges,” he said on his Instagram.
Unfortunately for Henriquez, he’s walking into a scenario where game time with the first-team could be just a pipe dream for him.
In Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck and Hernandez, United have plenty of options already and even if Hernandez was to leave, James Wilson would be the outstanding candidate to take his spot thanks to his senior breakthrough towards the end of last season.
For those reasons, Henriquez should go on loan again but this time to a Premier League club so his progress can be followed better.
After that, the Chilean might be able to get a shot at the first-team but if he stayed at the club, Under-21s football is likely to be what he does for most if not all of the season.
