Manchester United and PSG are actively pursuing Angel di Maria – report

Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria is an in-demand player right now thanks to his brilliant domestic season with the European champions.

Tonight, Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the Argentinian is being pursued by both Manchester United and Paris St Germain, and the latter is willing to pay €60m in order to sign him.

With Di Maria chasing €8m in wages which is a figure likely to be net, it means his gross wages would be €15m or, in other terms, more than what Robin van Persie earns at United.

Like Arjen Robben, Di Maria is a tricky winger who could thrive under the stewardship of Louis van Gaal but at that price and those wages, it’s unlikely United would compete for him.

That being said, Graham Hunter believes United is a strong contender to sign him should he leave Madrid this summer.

Di Maria, 26, led La Liga’s assists chart with 17 last season and was their man of the match in both the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich and the final against Madrid, and there’s no question he’d strengthen United were he to join.

However, it’s unlikely United would be willing to pay anywhere near €60m to sign him nor would they be willing to make him a higher earner than Van Persie.

In that scenario, PSG would be free to sign him but given their recent run-in over FFP laws, they may not be able to fund a move for him seeing as they already spent €40m on David Luiz.

Di Maria is available this summer but whether Madrid will find a team willing to pay the price they want remains to be seen.
