Louis van Gaal has wasted no time getting Manchester United’s squad back into shape by ordering the players to do a double training session on only their second day back at Carrington.
Despite being out in Brazil with Holland at the moment, Van Gaal called in the extra session and it immediately shows he means business at United with a no nonsense approach from the start, something the players will have to get used to.
Ryan Giggs took control of training with the aid of new assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg and will continue to do so until Van Gaal returns from Brazil.
That attitude from Van Gaal is something United fans all want to see from the players this year because there were too many passengers last season, players who weren’t giving enough to the team. Those players will have to change because Van Gaal is unlikely to be as accommodating as David Moyes was.
One thing is for sure next year – United’s players are going to respect Van Gaal. There’ll be no undermining or speaking out against Van Gaal, a factor which certainly contributed to Moyes’ downfall, as the Dutchman will demand respect from the very start, something which puts him in great stead for the job.
