Van Persie, 30, looked absolutely exhausted after completing the full 120 minutes in the quarter-final against Costa Rica and it comes as no surprise to hear he may not be fit in time for tomorrow.
Given that Van Persie is Holland’s captain, he is instrumental to their team and would be a big loss if he were ruled out of the fixture.
“He has a stomach problem, an intestinal problem. I don’t know (if he will play),” Van Gaal confirmed.
“I will decide (on Wednesday). Van Persie is our captain so he is very important to us. In principle my captain always plays, but he has to be fit.”
Van Gaal will want to start Van Persie but it’s unlikely he would risk him if he wasn’t fully fit.
However, as it is a stomach bug rather than a niggling injury, there is still a chance that the striker will be fit in time for Argentina.
