Reports from Spanish newspaper AS suggest Manchester United and Paris St Germain have submitted bids for Angel di Maria, with United’s bid believed to be the higher of the pair.
Di Maria, 26, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu despite his impressive domestic season because of a need to raise funds for player purchases, much like Mesut Ozil last summer.
Earlier this week, United were credited with a strong interest in the Argentinian winger and it was suggested the club was already actively pursuing a move for him, something which substantiated previous claims that his agent Jorge Mendes was keen to push a deal through for Di Maria.
One point to note about the claims from AS is they have not been substantiated in an article on their website, nor has it been picked up by any other outlet in Spain, and you’d imagine a story of that magnitude would have national coverage, so there is an air of uncertainty with what AS are reporting at this stage.
The Di Maria to United rumours have been gathering pace in the past few weeks and this is the latest escalation but at this time, the reports remain unconfirmed. That being said, Di Maria is happy to look for a move away from Madrid, so watch this space.
