Ryan Giggs has overseen the start of Manchester United’s pre-season training at Carrington in Louis van Gaal‘s absence and is pleased with how the players have been working.
Despite being on the other side of the world, Van Gaal had a big say on the squad’s initial preparations for the new season and maintained regular contact with Giggs and the coaching staff.
Giggs, who is preparing for his first season on the touchline rather than on the pitch, is excited to get started in his new role assisting Van Gaal which will start with pre-season.
“Everything’s been planned off Louis. Albert and Marcel know how he works so the blueprint has been prepared by Louis and we’re just following his plans,” Giggs told Manutd.com. “I have to say preparations have gone well so far.
“We’re spending two-and-a-half weeks in the US so he’ll get to know the players there. There’s plenty of time before the season starts.”
Van Gaal will join the squad for the USA Tour 2014 and his first game at Old Trafford will be against Valencia on August 12. The REUNITED 14 match is also likely to see home a debut for new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.
“The whole of pre-season is important but the nearer you get to the first league match, the more sharpness you have in your game,” added Giggs.
“You more or less know if you’ll be involved in the first match, so you want to do well.”
