Manchester United aren’t the only club interested in signing in-demand midfielder Arturo Vidal this summer and Turin based newspaper Tuttosport claims Manchester City are interested in hijacking a deal for the Chilean.
Tuttosport discusses Juventus’ desire to completely revamp their defence and says the club is eyeing up a deal for City’s 20-year-old centre-back Majita Nastasic, meaning there could be some shared interest in a negotiation process.
Would City be interested in signing a midfielder this summer, especially one like Vidal who would not come cheap?
If Yaya Toure was to leave the club, which is looking increasingly plausible, then they could see Vidal as a potential replacement for him. If Toure doesn’t leave, City would have no need for Vidal given the plethora of midfielders they have at their disposal.
Furthermore, City are already in advanced talks to sign Mangala for a reported £32m. Given their FFP sanctions, their free spending should slow. That being said, PSG don’t seem to have taken any notice of the sanctions in their summer spree this year.
Tuttosport is a Turin based newspaper. They may well just be using the oldest trick in the transfer book by creating artificial interest that allows Juventus to demand a premium price for Vidal. Conversely, City could well be interested in simply entertaining the prospect of signing Vidal if only to drive up the price of him for United, neither of which would be a particularly good outcome.
