Manchester United’s Bebe set to join Benfica – report

by Sam Peoples

Reports coming from Portugal suggest Manchester United misfit Bebe is on the verge of signing for Portuguese champions Benfica.

Correio da Manhã claims Bebe will sign a five-year contract for the club to call time on his United career before it ever really got started.

Brought to Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson, Bebe will be remembered as one of the strangest signings United have made after he joined from Vitória de Guimarães for a fee believed to be around £7.5m, having only been at the club a month after joining from Estrela for a fee which was nowhere near £1m.

Bebe only made a handful of appearances for United and failed to win over management and fans alike before being sent out on loan.

Having been at three different clubs in three seasons, Bebe has recently impressed Benfica scouts with 12 goals on loan at Paços de Ferreira and it could be enough to secure him a permanent move to the Portuguese champions.

This summer, there could (should) be a horde of exits from Old Trafford as part of Louis van Gaal shaping his own United side and Bebe’s departure wouldn’t be the last this year.
