Manchester United are far from finished in the transfer market both with arrivals and departures, Andy Mitten has reported on PlayUp.
Arturo Vidal speculation will dominate the daily headlines until such time as there is confirmation from Juventus, United or Vidal on the subject and while Mitten confirms the Vidal interest is indeed genuine, he believes staying strong in negotiations is something that United are keen to do.
That being said, United can’t hide their intentions this summer as there is a real necessity to buy after David Moyes’ debacle. Regardless of how strong we are with negotiations, the announcement of a £750m ten-year Adidas deal weakens our position as clubs are well aware of our financial position and need to improve the squad.
As for departures, Alexander Buttner has already left the club while Patrice Evra’s move to Juventus is all but complete, not to mention the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic on free transfers as well as Ryan Giggs’ retirement.
However, the futures of Anderson and Bebe look away from United while the likes of Ashley Young, Nani and Tom Cleverley are far from secure at Old Trafford, so expect there to be plenty of exits.
United are not in the Champions League next season so the need for a squad with greater depth isn’t a necessity, meaning Van Gaal can really get rid of the deadwood he doesn’t want without adversely affecting how competitive United can be.
This summer was always going to be about widespread change and the way things are looking, there will be plenty more change before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
