Ander Herrera has flown out with his Manchester United team-mates for the pre-season US Tour and could be in for a shock when he sees the support for United out there.
Herrera, 24, moved to United from Athletic Bilbao and although the Spanish club has a loyal and dedicated fanbase, it doesn’t compare to United in terms of sheer scale.
Last season, it was David Moyes who was surprised by United’s global scale and this summer, it could be Herrera.
“Juan and David told me United is a big club, maybe the biggest in the world and they said there is a great spirit here,” Herrera said earlier this week.
“I have [already] seen that. I am happy and just want to start playing now.”
The global appeal of United is incomparable when it comes to how many fans are spread around the world and this US Tour will show that once again.
Connecting with fans around the world is a big part of what United tries to do in the modern age of corporate sponsorship but Herrera will have been told about the scale of it by fellow Spaniard David de Gea and he looks confident enough to take it all in his stride.
