Jurgen Klopp has played down rumours that Mats Hummels could be on his way to Manchester United for €20m and labelled them as ‘garbage’.
Hummels, 25, was linked with United prior to the World Cup and actually admitted he would like to play for United one day before playing down the possibility that could happen this summer.
Now, following his excellent performances out in Brazil, the rumours have resurfaced but Klopp is adamant a move isn’t going to happen.
“Both will stay here this season. There is no tendency they’d want to be elsewhere,” Klopp said about the Reus and Hummels
Borussia Dortmund’s new defensive signing of Matthias Ginter, 20, is considered by some to be a potential replacement for Hummels but Dortmund will not want to sell their best defender unless an offer is too good to refuse.
Hummels is a top class defender who loves nothing more than to play out from the back with the ball at his feet, something which would appeal to Louis van Gaal, but it remains to be seen if United would be willing to pay the premium needed to secure a player who performed very well at the World Cup.
