Arturo Vidal has been quoted by the British press including Sky Sports by saying he has ruled out a move to Manchester United this summer.
While Vidal certainly did say ‘no’ when asked if he was moving to Old Trafford, the context seems to have been lost.
Vidal was interviewed by Sky Sports as soon as he landed in the airport after returning to Italy. Here’s a video of the interview:
And here is a full transcript of what was said in the interview:
Vidal laughed off the interest rather than dismissing it out of hand. At the very least for the Chilean, using United’s interest as leverage for a better contract is something he’d want to do, so he wouldn’t rule out a move to United just yet.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported the same quotes with no mention of United which would have been the fulcrum of any report had it not been a simple brushing statement after a leading question.
Di Marzio reported Vidal as saying: “I’m still on vacation, we’ll see starting from tomorrow. Allegri? I haven’t heard from him or from my teammates yet. I don’t know yet if I’ll stay, I have to speak with Allegri first, but I’m happy here.”
Vidal didn’t even manage to get out of the airport before he was interviewed about his future and that intense media pressure will be the case every single day now until such time as he clarifies his future.
From United’s perspective, Vidal is available, the player has left the door open for an exit and Juventus are ready to accept an offer for the right amount, so the move still has potential.
