Report: Manchester United preparing €38m bid for Juan Cuadrado

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are preparing to make a €38 million bid for Fiorentina’s Cuadrado according to Spain’s Mundo Deportivo. report.

The Barcelona-based paper has said the 26-year-old is a target of both Louis van Gaal and new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, as both managers look to revitalise their respective midfield.

The Colombian, who impressed at the World Cup in Brazil, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on several occasions this summer the latest bid follows reports from a week ago that United were ready to bid £27.7 million for the player.

Both United and Barca have been linked with Cuadrado even before the World Cup ended. La Gazzetta dello Sport initially linked United with a €40 million bid before Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio claimed the Catalan club were the favourites a week later.

The player himself has remained quiet on his future since he declined to commit himself to Fiorentina shortly after the World Cup, when he told Italian station Radio Blu he did not know what would happen and had not received any concrete offers from any club.

Cuadrado began his career as a speedy right-back but has since developed into a dangerous forward player, comfortable on the wing or in a more roving, attacking role.  He scored 15 goals in 42 appearances for Fiorentina last season and is a legitimate goal threat.

Though United’s midfield now boasts Ander Herrera, more depth is certainly required and Cuadrado would be an exciting addition. The player most at threat from his arrival would seem to be Antonio Valencia, though the Ecuadorian signed a new three-year contract in June.
